Staff and volunteers from our Macmillan Deaf Cancer Support Project descended onto our very first promotional event in the Deaf community over two days on a July weekend. The weather was kind on the Saturday – warm and overcast. Not so on the Sunday; it was a bit of a washout! So much so, we had to set up inside the big tent.
The event was well received by the Deaf community who came to our stall, asked us questions about the service and donated. We got 4 new referrals – we could say that it was a success. It was our first proper event under our national Deaf Cancer Support project.
Over 1,629 campers were there at Shrewsbury Showground. We saw various kinds of camping galore – from 2-person tents to one majestic motorhome that was the size of a lorry with expanding sides, like the ones seen on America’s roads! We hope to repeat the experience next summer.
